About The Brand
Original YSL designs were inspired by Andy Warhol’s pop art, military uniforms, and safari expeditions. As the decades and trends progressed, YSL embraced the need to feel attractive more than the need to feel elegant.
Unconventional women like Betty Catroux, Loulou de La Falaise, and Poloma Picasso loved the YSL look. Laurent was the first designer to use his own face and body to promote his brand in the early 1970s. Believe it or not, he wore only glasses and nothing else in his advertisement for a new men’s cologne called Pour Homme.
YSL’s collection of eyewear blurs the lines between daytime wear and evening wear, runway wear and street wear, formal wear and casual wear. YSL continues to be a few steps ahead of the fashion curve and bring out new styles that are still brimming with originality, even by modern fashion standards.
